Gut bacteria play an important role in NAD production. NAD boosting effect of oral NAM (nicotinamide) NR (nicotinamide riboside) is largely dependent on gut bacteria breaking them down to nicotinic acid, and that nicotinic acid being processed via Preiss Handler pathway.
